What this app is for

A Better Child helps families and care teams organize developmental support: profiles, practice logs, assessments, and (where available) journal-style notes and media. Processing your information is necessary to provide these features and keep them available and secure.

Categories of data we process

Depending on how you use the app, we may process:

  • Account and sign-in: identifiers from Supabase Auth (for example email when you use email sign-in, or profile identifiers from Google if you choose “Continue with Google”).
  • Caregiver profile: display name, optional account photo, optional demographics you choose to enter (such as date of birth, gender, career, country), and onboarding completion status.
  • Child profile: your child’s display name, optional photo, optional demographics (such as date of birth, gender, education context), and developmental domain levels you or your team record.
  • Team membership: who is linked to a child’s care team, their role labels (for example parent or therapist wording you enter), and platform roles where applicable for administration.
  • Practice and plans: activity catalog references, practice session logs (including evaluations, dates, optional duration, and notes you add), items you remove from a suggested plan, and team-shared Practice view configuration (which catalog activities to emphasize per domain — stored as activity identifiers only; editable on the server by child-team admins, readable by all caregivers on that child).
  • Assessments and onboarding responses: answers and summaries from structured questionnaires used to capture levels and context.
  • Journal (when enabled): posts and optional media you upload, stored as file references - not embedded as raw files inside routine analytics tables.
  • Settings: preferences such as UI language.
  • Technical data: browser cookies used to keep you signed in, remember locale, and protect sessions; standard server logs needed to operate and secure the service.

Embedded videos (Practice)

Some activities may show an embedded YouTube player to illustrate the skill. When you play that video, Google (YouTube) receives requests from your browser similar to visiting YouTube directly. We do not upload those videos to our own storage; the catalog stores only a reference so the player can load.

Why we use data

We use the information above to authenticate you, show the correct child and team context, save progress you choose to record, sync preferences across devices, improve reliability and security, and meet legal obligations where they apply. We do not sell your personal information.

Where data is hosted

The product is built on Supabase, which provides authentication, the application database (PostgreSQL), file storage for uploads, and related infrastructure. Data is processed in Supabase’s environment according to their terms and security practices. We may use additional subprocessors as ordinary parts of operating a web service (for example hosting or error reporting); when we add materially new categories of recipients, we will update this page and product documentation where appropriate.

Who can see your data

The app is designed so child- and family-scoped data is available to members of that child’s care team you (or an administrator) have authorized, and not to other families. Catalog content such as shared activity libraries may be readable to signed-in users as needed to use the product. Administrative tools are limited to appropriately privileged accounts. Database access for the application uses industry-standard controls including row-level security aligned with team membership, as described in our technical documentation.

Retention and deletion

We retain information for as long as your account exists and as needed to provide the service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Automated deletion schedules (for example fixed expiry for logs or media) are not yet published as product-wide guarantees; when they are, we will reflect them here. You can request deletion or export of personal data consistent with applicable law and our operational capacity - contact us using channels we publish in the product or on our website.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of your personal data, and to object to some uses. You can update much of your profile and child information directly in the app. For other requests, contact us as above. We will respond within a reasonable time.

Children’s information

The service is intended for parents, guardians, and professional care teams entering information about a child they support. It is not directed at children as independent users. If you believe a child has created an account or submitted data without appropriate consent, contact us so we can investigate.

Changes to this page

We may update this privacy summary as the product evolves. When changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to draw attention to them (for example in-app notices or updated “last updated” language). Continued use after changes means you accept the updated description.
